Earring Frame

Friday, April 27, 2012

When it comes to storing earrings, I knew that I didn't want to just put them in a box because I knew that I wouldn't wear them and forget what I had. I decided that I wanted to display them in a way that would be quick to choose and easy to wear them. I am a bit of creature of habit and tend to stick to a few pairs of earrings so I don't have too many and tend to stick to silver earrings.

So this is what I came up with.

I used a frame and took the glass out of the frame and added some cork which I painted in a teal  colour.
The frame is an  Ribba frame  from Ikea. It is 26cm high and 20cm wide when stood up.

RIBBA Frame IKEA The mount enhances the picture and makes framing easy. PH-neutral mount; will not discolour the picture.

The frame can be either stood up or laid down. I chose to lay it down so that I could make a few rows of earrings.

To attach the earrings, I just used one of the pins that I was going to use for the hoop earrings, to make a hole in the cork. Then the earring just fit in the hole and I made sure that I didn't push them in too far.
The earrings don't tend to fall out as the frame sits back slightly on the stand so it stops them falling forward.

I like the way that I can just put it on a shelf and it looks pretty and sorts my earring out at the same time?

Also in Ikea, you can get large Ribba frames and so I thought that would work if you had large amount of earrings.
 what do you think?

Couple of simple butterfly cards

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

I thought that today I would show you a couple of simple butterfly cards that I made a while ago.

On the first card, I used a few templates to make the butterfly, the scallop square and the the label with the sentiment on. I don't have many dies to make the shapes so I just improvise with templates I find on the internet or journal cards.

Paper - Cosmo Cricket De Lovely | Stamp - My Pink Stamper Fabulous Phrases | Butterfly, scallop square and label - template | Ribbon - Hobbycraft | Gems - Dovecraft.

The butterfly on the second card was made by simply tracing around a larger butterfly template and then added the black line inside to stop the butterfly from being to plain.

Paper - Basic Grey Lemonade | Stamp - My Pink Stamper Fabulous Phrases | Twine - The Ribbon Reel | Brads - Papermania | Buttons - Vintage.

You can make some simple cards look really pretty by just using some pretty patterned papers and not having to go overboard with embellishments.

Birthday card made using home-made scallop eyelet die.

I recently bought some doilies from Joanna Sheen and really wanted to make a card with them so when I needed to make a card for one of our nieces I thought I would give them a go.

I think that scallop circle could have done with being a bit bigger but I like the doily.

The scallop circle was something that I created because I wanted to use a eyelet scallop circle but I didn't have the die. I drew around the Nestabilities lacey circles die and cut it out and then used my crop a dile to create the eyelet holes. Some of the holes were slightly off centre but I think it worked quite well.

Paper - Dovecraft Tea Party | Stamps - Amy R  It's your birthday and  Dovecraft Tea House | Ink - Versamagic | Doily- Joanna Sheen | Buttons - Papermania | Ribbon - Hobbycraft | Scallop circle - handmade | Thread - Sew Easy | button twine - The Ribbon Girl.

Hope your week in going well.

Happy Anniversary - Skipping Stones Designs sketch 123

Thursday, April 12, 2012

Today is 5 years since we got married in Malta. We have had a lot of ups and downs over the 5 years but I can definitely say that we are at a good point, well I know I am!
OK, so I am going to be honest,  like many people these days, we struggle with the finances and have really had to learn how to deal with it, but whether it was giving up the caffeine or whether something in me just clicked but it doesn't seem to matter whether we have money or none, it doesn't seem to affect me like it used to do.  Every little thing used to effect me and I used to take it to heart but my husband has really helped by listening to me when I just need to put things into perspective.

I know I am rambling but I wanted to say that.

So this is the card that I made for Mark.

I chose to use the sketch 123 from Skipping Stones Designs.
I thought that I would use lots of different stamps to create the background image rather than just using a patterned paper and tried to use ink that went with the papers.

Paper - My Mind's Eye Lime Twist out of the blue and fly a kite | Stamps - My Pink Stamper, My Mind's eye, Hero Arts, Clare Curd, Paula Pascual | Stars and Hearts - punches | white gel pen | Ink - versamagic and colorbox.

See you soon.

Baking and Creating Eggs.

Friday, April 06, 2012

So it's Good Friday and it's almost end of the first week of the school holidays. We have been trying to keep Hollie entertained and we have been making things and baking things.

Fist we made some small chocolate eggs using an egg mould that I found in the 99p shop and Hollie really enjoyed eating them!

Then we cut out some egg shapes from card and coloured them in and hung them on the twigs, with some thread, to display them.

And we thought we would show the little bit of face painting that they did at nursery last week. Little pink Hollie bunny.

So I thought that I would also show a card I have made. It was made using the Echo Park Summer Days papers and I think it is great with all the colours. I decided to try using two label one dies to make a frame rather than just a label and I think it works well. The butterfly was made from a template that I have in my stash.

Paper - Echo Park Summer Days | Stamp - My Pink Stamper Fabulous Phrases | Twine - Donna Flower | Frame - Spellbinders Nestabilities Label one | Border punch - Fiskars apron lace | Circle - 2 inch punch | Butterfly - template | Button and gems - local craft shop.

Hope you all have a lovely Easter. See you soon.

Mojo Monday Sketch 234

Sunday, April 01, 2012

So it's the start of April already and April fool's day. Hope you don't get caught out!

I used the sketch 234 from Mojo Monday for this card.  I decided to try combing the three embossing folders for the background rather than using patterned papers and kept it white. The idea of using kites came from one of the patterned papers in the fly a kite papers, I used the small kite from the paper but made the big one to go with it.

Paper - My Minds Eye Out of the blue and Fly a kite | Stamp - Amy R stamps It's your birthday | Twine - The Ribbon Reel | Embossing folders - Cuttlebug seeing spots, candy stripes and stars.
